Laydeez do Comics Chicago!

This is MK Czerwiec, aka Comic Nurse. My colleague Riva Lehrer and I are proud to report on the first meeting of Laydeez do Comics Chicago!

Our inaugural presenters were drawn by David Mitchell. From left to right they are:
Rinko Endo, Kris Dresen and Corinne Mucha. (click to enlarge)

Our meeting fell on the 52nd anniversary of the first girl group #1 hit on the Billboard charts, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" by The Shirelles. The day before, the last living Andrew Sister, Patty, had passed away at age 94. So the question to the group was, "Who is your favorite Girl Group and why?" Answers ranged from Sleater-Kinney to Destiny's Child to The Go-Gos.

First to present was Kris Dresen. She discussed her twenty year career in comics. You can see more of her work on her website, www.krisdresen.com.

Second was Rinko Endo. She discussed in detail her two manga, Aggression Management Manga and The Cage. You can read excerpts on her new website, www.rinkoendo.com

Our final presenter was Corinne Mucha. She also gave an overview of her career as a cartoonist. You can see more of her work on her website, www.maidenhousefly.com

Our next meeting will be in two weeks, February 21st at Quimby's. Our speakers will be Laura Szumowski, David Mitchell (website link pending!) and me, Comic Nurse.

  1. If this is "Ladies" do comics, why is there a male presenter at the second meeting? Im not being sarcastic, I legitimately want to know.
